I’m a therapist who welcomes AI, used ethically and legally.
Many people now use AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude to sort through their feelings or prepare for hard conversations. I don’t discourage this. I bring 20+ years in technology (Apple, Gartner, UCSF) and my own extensive use of AI to helping clients use it well.
What AI does well: It’s available at any hour, endlessly patient, and a low-stakes place to try out thoughts you’re not ready to say aloud.
What it can’t do: It can’t offer human presence, reliably recognize a crisis, or hold you accountable. It can also be too agreeable. As AI takes on more of the insight work, the human side of therapy matters more, not less.
How I work:
- You’re welcome to bring your AI conversations into session. They’re often rich material.
- I can help you use AI more safely and notice when it’s helping versus keeping you stuck.
- I never enter identifiable client information into consumer AI tools, and I’ll explain their privacy limits.
- I follow California law and my profession’s ethics codes. AI never replaces my clinical judgment.
- Using AI is always your choice.
